Much like free trade. I think the idea behind Trump isn't so much playing the fears and "confidence tricks" but more looking at history and seeing what has worked in the past as a guide to the future. Lots of what he says is unfortunately true. Even such truisms like "we are losing on trade" and "we make bad deals".

I don't think anyone would argue that America has had a history of making deals that benefit other countries more than they benefit America, if they do at all (in some cases).Dylan S.http://www.nationaleconomicseditorial.com/2017/03/21/economic-nationalism/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679900905356691531.post-29744966185784739292017-03-07T12:24:18.109-08:002017-03-07T12:24:18.109-08:00"........global trade began to expand at a ra..."........global trade began to expand at a rate greater than its historic average. Revolutionary changes in logistics-- containerization, transportation, inventory control, and information transfer-- dropped the cost of transportation and shipping dramatically. "

This is certainly true, for what its worth, and to an extent, but its importance is vastly overstated (as usual) by liberal economists and their magical and unwarranted faith in efficiency and innovation. The transportation of billions of tons
of raw materials and finished goods from sources increasingly in the global south and east Asia, to consumers 8000 -12000 miles away in Europe and N America has been made possible by the ruthless military political conquest of remaining oil, natural gas and coal supplies by the core capitalist powers most especially the USA. The cost of this never ending war for energy does not come into the liberal economists calculations, and neither does the cost of the damage to the natural environment figure in..These costs have been staggering. solersohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14384736286615189367noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679900905356691531.post-26321135881527356832017-02-18T06:31:47.193-08:002017-02-18T06:31:47.193-08:00>All the benefits to the working class are supp...>All the benefits to the working class are supposed to come from closing the borders to commodities, both human (labor power) and material (imports).

trump's confidence trick in a nutshell
erichttp://ericwalberg.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6679900905356691531.post-84068160380026925742017-02-17T15:49:50.459-08:002017-02-17T15:49:50.459-08:00The advent of single payer healthcare in the USA w...The advent of single payer healthcare in the USA would be a good start!Hartwick Soamesnoreply@blogger.com
